The chipmaker on Thursday announced the first of two new high-performance CPUs for embedded systems.AMD says the new APU chips are designed to improve performance of embedded devices and games.

The APU-based chips will be available in the coming months in the form of a new AM3-based APU.AMD and its partners have been working on the APU, codenamed AM4, for several years.

The chip is expected to launch next year, the company said.
